OAU DSA Cautions Students Against Proposed Student Mobilization For PVC Enrollment by "Unregistered Group"

The Obafemi Awolowo University's (OAU) Division Students' Affairs (DSS) has reacted to the circulating information on media platforms about the mobilization of Interested students for the enrollment of the Permanent Voter's Card (PVC) by a group called "INEC STUDENTS AMBASSADORS".

The DSA in a statement released on 10th of November and signed by the Dean of DSA, Prof. Aransi, denies having any "involvement" with this "group". They described the group as a "faceless" one. They empathised that the group is NOT KNOWN to the School authorities.

The group initially planned to convey interested students to the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) office at Eleyele, Ile-Ife. They would make available a bus a the Students' Union Building (SUB) park that will convey the students to the destined location on Friday, 12th of November by 7:30am. The DSA strictly warned the students against entering

"any unidentified free vehicle(s) provided by unknown/unrecognized individuals to convey them to any destination without approval of the University authorities at this crucial time"

The Division of Students' Affairs (DSA) also maintained that the students have the right to get registered for their PVCs at the stipulated deadline.

The "INEC Ambassadors" have reacted to this swift safety measure taken by the DSA. In a memo they released and that was signed by "INEC Ambassadors for the continuous Voters Registration" admitted to not seeking the consent of the school authorities.

Greetings,

We hope that this meets you well.

Just today, it came to our knowledge, the circular released by the authority of the Obafemi Awolowo University about the proposed exercise of students mobilization for the ongoing continuous voters registration (CVR).

We earnestly admit through this medium, that though we have not sought for the consent of the school authority before embarking on such exercise, but this surely isn't for any negative reasons and intentions. To this extent therefore, we are informing all prospective participants, that the exercise after due consideration, is hereby put on hold till further notice, to address the key issue(s) raised in the released circular.

We consciously affirm our regard and respect to the authority of the Obafemi Awolowo University, and the students of the great citadel of learning.

Much regard.
