EFCC Operatives Storm Hostels in Midnight Raid, Arrest Over 70 OAU Students


Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) reportedly barged into dorms outside the OAU campus and arrested over 70 students during the midnight raid.

According to several sources, the officials in the early hours of Wednesday arrived at Fine Touch and Superb hostels in Oduduwa Estate, Ile-Ife, forced their way into the rooms, and rounded up the students.

As of the time of this publication, the reasons for the arrests remain unknown. The Students’ Union President, Abass Ojo, confirmed the incident in a press release which was released shortly after the incident. Abbas added that:
72 students were picked up from the hostel with phones and cars taken away.

There were also reports that the students were maltreated before being forced into a white bus. In a video of the incident shared online, the students could be seen entering a white Hummer bus with some officials hitting them and ordering them to move in quickly.

The Student Union in response to the arrests mobilized students to the EFCC Zonal Command office in Ibadan to secure the release of their students.

According to The Punch Newspaper, the spokesperson for the Public Affairs Department of the EFCC, Ibadan Zonal Command, has assured the media agency that a press statement would be released soon about the incident.
